Trump Intensifies Electioneering As Midterms Approach, Makes More Financial Promises To Individual Americans.
With the November midterm elections fast approaching, President Donald Trump has doubled down on his financial pledges to voters, promising each American more money if the Republicans retain control of the House and the Senate.
“If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the Senate in the 2026 Midterm Elections, I’m going to give all Adult Citizens in the United States of America, $5,000.” Trump posted on Truth Social on Saturday, reminding voters of the “Trump Dividend” he had first promised them in early September during the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention.
On the same day, Trump used the social media platform to urge his supporters to “use every appropriate tool” to “swamp” the Democrats “with massive turnout” in the election.
With one month to go before voters head to the polls, this barrage of campaign messaging by the president is unsurprising. His pleas to voters also come amidst reports of large numbers of ballot requests by registered Democrat voters in several key states, which may signal more enthusiasm for Democratic candidates than Republican ones.
Aggregated polls show that the president is facing particularly low approval ratings, with the latest data from early October showing that approximately three out of every five American voters consistently report having a negative overall opinion of the Trump administration.
It is unclear whether the promise of a “Trump dividend”, which the administration claims will come from tariff revenue and increases in visa fees, will sway these disapproving voters, especially considering that polls show that popular approval of Trump’s handling of the economy is lower than it was during the administration of President Joe Biden.
The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget also warned that the dividends would cost upwards of $1 trillion and increase the projected primary deficit for 2027 from $780 billion to $2 trillion.
However, these warnings have not deterred Trump from making more financial promises.
Trump also wrote on Truth Social on Friday evening that his administration would immediately “begin sending ‘checks’ of nearly $100 to over 20 MILLION wonderful Seniors to help pay for their Medicare Part B premiums, which have already reduced by significant amounts.”
Data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services show that the price of Medicare Part B premiums was $185 in 2025 and has increased to $202.9 this year. According to the White House website, most eligible seniors would receive one-time payments of $90 in early October.
