More Than a Run: The Evolution of LaceLocker® And Its Purpose-Driven Mission
In a market shaped by incremental innovation, meaningful breakthroughs often begin with personal moments that refuse to be ignored. For Carol ‘Stash’ Stanley, founder of LaceLocker®, that moment came during a run, when something as ordinary as a loose shoelace led to an accident that could have been avoided.
She recollects that the experience stayed with her. “I remember thinking, I am never dealing with that again,” Stash says. “There has to be a better way to keep people safe doing something as simple as walking or running.”
That conviction became the foundation for LaceLocker®, a product designed to secure shoelaces and reduce the risk of tripping. “LaceLocker® is a small, practical solution with wide application. It is designed for runners, athletes, children, and anyone who relies on footwear throughout the day. The concept is simple, yet the implications extend into performance, safety, and peace of mind,” she notes.
Stash says her work in education and her connections within academic institutions gave her a broader understanding of how ideas can scale when paired with the right networks and purpose. “I have always believed that solutions should serve people in real ways,” she explains. “It is about creating something useful, something that can fit into everyday life without adding complexity.”
LaceLocker® attaches directly to shoelaces, helping keep them securely in place during movement. Stash believes that it removes a common point of failure that many people accept as unavoidable. In doing so, she adds, it shifts attention back to performance, whether that means completing a race, navigating a busy day, or simply walking without interruption.

Stash is actively exploring the integration of GPS tracking capabilities into future iterations of the product. “I think the concept introduces a new dimension that can extend beyond convenience into safety and connectivity. For parents, caregivers, and athletes, the ability to track movement through a wearable accessory could offer an additional reassurance,” she explains. “The idea is to expand what this product can do. There is an opportunity to bring in partners who can help develop the technology side and take it further than I can alone.”
According to Stash, this focus on collaboration defines the current stage of LaceLocker®’s growth. She emphasizes that she is seeking strategic partnerships and investment to scale production, enhance product capabilities, and expand into international markets. For her, the vision is shaped by the belief that a simple solution can have global relevance when supported by the right infrastructure.
LaceLocker® is also tied to a scholarship initiative that reflects Stash’s personal life. Inspired by her mother, who was only able to pursue education through the eighth grade, the scholarship fund is designed to create opportunities for first-generation women seeking access to education. “My mom did not have the chance to go further in school,” Stash shares. “That stayed with me. I wanted to build something that could open doors for others in a way she never had.”

She highlights that all profits from LaceLocker® support this scholarship effort, creating a direct link between each product sold and the broader mission of educational access. “I believe the scholarship initiative gives LaceLocker® and me more purpose. When consumers are aware of where products come from and what they are supporting, it could also give them a shared sense of purpose,” she adds.
Stash sees this as part of a larger conversation about thoughtful design. “A secure lace may seem minor, yet it addresses a point of friction that can lead to injury or disruption. When paired with potential tracking capabilities, the product could move into a space that intersects with personal safety and connected technology. There are so many things we accept as they are,” she says. “Sometimes all it takes is looking at them differently and asking how they could work better for people.”
Looking ahead, Stash believes that the future of LaceLocker® will depend on its ability to scale while maintaining its core identity. She notes that partnerships will play a central role in advancing the GPS concept and expanding distribution. For her, increased visibility for the scholarship fund remains a priority, with the goal of reaching more women who can benefit from educational support.
“LaceLocker® began with a single moment of disruption. It has since evolved into a platform that connects safety, innovation, and opportunity,” she says. “If we can keep people safer, help them stay focused on what they are doing, and at the same time support someone’s education, that is success to me.”
