Monica Hester: Building Purpose-Driven Businesses and Empowering Lives Through Financial Clarity
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 20% of businesses fail within their first year, and 50% never make it to the five‑year mark. Beneath those numbers lies a deeper truth: survival isn’t determined by how much revenue a business brings in, but by the reliability of its cash flow. Revenue can look impressive on paper, yet without steady cash moving through the business, even strong companies can quietly run out of oxygen.
Monica Hester, founder of Hester Business Solutions and Working For A Purpose, acknowledges that in today’s evolving business environment, long-term success is often shaped by clarity, structure, and informed decision-making. Therefore, she has built her career around strengthening these elements for both entrepreneurs and individuals seeking a better future.
Through Hester Business Solutions, Hester says she partners with business owners across the United States to improve how they understand and manage the operational side of their companies. According to her, the firm provides tailored financial and strategic support designed to help entrepreneurs gain control over their numbers and build stronger foundations for growth.

“Many business owners are highly skilled in their craft, yet they have never been shown how to fully interpret their financial position,” she explains. “Our role is to bring clarity so they can lead with confidence and make decisions that are grounded in real data.”
Hester adds that her approach is shaped by an early insight. “Growth does not always lead to profitability, especially when inefficiencies remain,” she says. “I built my company to close that gap by helping clients understand how their businesses truly operate. Revenue is only one part of the equation. Without the right structure, progress is hard to sustain, so we focus on building that foundation.”
Before launching her business, Hester worked in the banking sector, where she developed a deep appreciation for financial systems and their impact on both individuals and organizations. During that time, she says that she recognized a broader issue that would later define her work. “I noticed that financial literacy was often overlooked. I saw people with incredible potential navigating complex financial situations without the tools to fully understand them,” she recalls. “That realization pushed me toward education as a way to create meaningful change.” She adds that a good coach doesn’t simply motivate; they help fix the common failure points that cause businesses to struggle.
For Hester, teaching remains central to her philosophy. Each client engagement, she says, is an opportunity to build understanding alongside delivering solutions. Hester emphasizes that business owners benefit most when they are equipped to think strategically about their operations.
“Business owners should work on their business, not in their business. When owners are consumed by daily tasks, it limits their ability to lead effectively,” she says. “Creating space for strategic thinking allows them to move their business forward with intention.”
According to Hester, a defining feature of Hester Business Solutions is its commitment to a hands-on and personalized approach. Rather than offering standardized services, the firm adapts its solutions to fit each client’s unique circumstances. With access to 24 different providers, Hester adds that she and her team are able to match businesses with options that align with their specific needs. “Every business operates differently, and their solutions should reflect that,” she explains. “We take the time to understand the details so we can recommend what truly supports their goals.”
For Hester, while her work in business is grounded in systems and strategy, her nonprofit organization reflects a deeply personal dimension of her mission. The Working For A Purpose foundation was established in March 2020 as a response to the challenges faced by single parents. The organization focuses on providing mentorship, resources, and encouragement to individuals working to create stable and fulfilling lives for themselves and their families. This mission is especially significant given that, in the United States, 23% of children under age 18 live in households with one parent.

Hester’s connection to this cause is rooted in her own experience. “I became a mother at a young age and chose to separate from her father when my daughter was still an infant. It demanded resilience and determination to rebuild my path,” she says. “That journey showed me how critical support systems are. Many people have the drive to succeed but lack guidance and resources, and the foundation exists to provide both while reminding them their goals are within reach.” She notes that the biggest strain on single‑parent households is financial pressure, paired with full responsibility for housing, childcare, food, healthcare, and transportation.
Through mentorship programs and community support, the organization aims to create opportunities and foster confidence. Hester views this work as an extension of her broader purpose. “When people are given the right support and encouragement, their perspective shifts,” she explains. “They begin to see possibilities that once felt out of reach.”
As both of her ventures expand, Hester has also focused on building sustainability within her business. Over the past few years, she has mentored an assistant with the intention of transitioning her into a leadership role. This effort reflects a long-term vision of creating a company that can operate successfully beyond her direct involvement. “Developing strong leadership within the organization ensures that the work continues to evolve and serve clients effectively,” she says. She believes that this transition will allow her to dedicate more time to the foundation and pursue a more flexible lifestyle that includes travel and continued personal growth.
Looking ahead, Hester’s goals are both focused and expansive. Hester Business Solutions will continue to grow under a leadership structure that maintains its personalized approach and commitment to client success. Working For A Purpose Foundation is set to expand its reach through additional resources, including plans for a full-time director and a grant writer to support its initiatives.
As Hester says, “Each effort is designed to create lasting change, whether in the form of stronger businesses or more empowered individuals. I believe I am operating within my purpose. Everything I do is centered on educating, supporting, and helping others move closer to the life they envision.”
