GOP Rep. Accuses Ruben Gallego Of ‘Very Disturbing’ Allegations

Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna accused Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego of engaging in “very disturbing” behavior as several lawmakers across party lines face scrutiny over alleged misconduct.

Luna told CBS News that she was referring to Gallego when posting a cryptic message on X urging Senate Majority Leader John Thune to “look into the allegations against one of your Senators, it’s very disturbing.”

Luna did not go into detail, but said some of the allegations are “sexual in nature” and others include campaign finance violations. She claimed that Thune’s office confirmed that the matter is under investigation.

Luna went on to claim that Gallego “was very closely tied to Eric Swalwell,” the lawmaker who dropped out of his campaign for California Governor and resigned from Congress after being accused of sexual abuse.

“There is a woman that allegedly is coming forward with attorneys [and] wants to go on-record about an incident that occurred between the two of them at the same time, and the event was sexual in nature, allegedly,” Luna said.

“I think any time that you are knowingly engaging in purchasing someone for sex, that that is something that should be taken seriously,” she added.

A spokesperson for Gallego rejected the allegations, calling them “right wing conspiracy theories being parroted by a fringe far right member of Congress.” “Senator Gallego has not received notification or been contacted by the ethics committee.”

Other lawmakers are currently plagued by scandals. Rep. Tony Gonzales also won’t continue in Congress. He had admitted earlier this year to having an affair with a staff member who later committed suicide. Gonzales, who was in his third term in Congress, initially resisted calls to resign but said he wouldn’t seek reelection.

However, that changed when a bipartisan effort in Congress to expel both him and Swalwell of them gained momentum. Once it became clear that there might be enough votes to actually remove them from office, both resigned.

Now, in the aftermath of the resignations, lawmakers Luna and Teresa Leger Fernandez say they might look at other colleagues facing serious allegations. Specifically, the duo referenced Republican Rep. Cory Mills and Democratic Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick.

Mills faces a House Ethics Committee investigation over a variety of alleged misdeeds including possibly breaking campaign finance rules and accusations that he threatened to release nude videos of an ex, Politico reported.

Cherfilus-McCormick, on her end, has been indicted on charges that she and several co-defendants stole federal disaster funds, laundered the proceeds, and used the money to support her 2021 congressional campaign. The charges involve the apparent misallocation of $5 million in COVID-19 disaster relief money that was supposed to be used for vaccination staffing.
