BRITISH American Tobacco said on Monday it will cut 5,500 jobs and move a further 3,500 roles to strategic partners, impacting about 20 per cent of its global workforce, as it pushes ahead with its AI-driven transformation programme.
The London-listed tobacco giant said in a statement that most of the changes had now been confirmed with employees, with remaining consultations being carried out in compliance with local requirements.
The cuts exclude the United States, the company said.
The cost-saving programme is expected to add £600 million (S$1.03 billion) of annualised incremental savings by 2028, with £500 million already targeted by 2027. REUTERS
