Woman’s realization about senior Yorkshire terrier’s fur delights viewers

A dog owner has left internet users in stitches after making a hilarious realization about her senior Yorkshire terrier while watching a dog show. 

In a 9-second video shared on TikTok on Tuesday under the username @sydsfinsta, the poster shows a brief clip of a dog show she is watching on the TV, where a contestant brushes a Yorkshire terrier with long, straight, smooth fur. Then she turns the camera around to her own Yorkshire terrier, a cute senior pup with short, disheveled fur, who looks nothing like the canine in the show, despite being the same exact breed. 

“Show yorkie vs my yorkie,” the caption says, “But likeeee what kind of shampoo is she using?? Asking for a friend.” 

Yorkshire terriers can indeed have gorgeous fur, but that will require attentive care. 

Experts at Pedigree say that, if left unkempt, the hair keeps growing and can easily tangle or mat—especially if it’s soft or cottonlike in texture, which is more prone to knotting and damage than a smooth silk coat.   

Because of this, frequent grooming is needed: daily brushing (ideally after misting with water or conditioner), plus weekly combing or professional checkups are recommended to keep the coat manageable and healthy.  

For many pet owners, a shorter “puppy cut” is advised—especially in summer—to lower maintenance and avoid overheating, but long show-style coats are possible if you commit to regular brushing, bathing, and detangling. 

The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 9.3 million views and more than 1.2 million likes on the platform. 

One user, Amethyst, commented: “I’m convinced the show Yorkie has extensions lol [laugh out loud].” 

Gigi’s Nails said: “Show yorkie: a barbie doll kept in the box on a shelf, never knowing a child’s love…your yorkie: a Barbie doll taken out of the box immediately and loved for every second of her life.” 

Another user, Meldizzle_, wrote: “The Victoria’s Secret super models vs the rest of us.” 

Taylordeannmarie added: “Don’t worry boo. They’re unrealistic beauty standards. We know how that goes.”
