Which roads will be closed for the 2025 Austin Marathon?
AUSTIN (KXAN) — On your mark, get set, go!
More than 23,000 runners will take to the streets of Austin for the Ascension Seton Austin Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K, beginning at 7 a.m. Sunday. The annual tradition offers courses ranging between 3.1 miles and 26. 2 miles, with runners coursing across town through plenty of hills and neighborhoods.
Crews will begin road closure work on Friday, with Friday and Saturday allocated to set up ahead of the Sunday morning kickoff. Here are the setup closures planned:
- Ninth Street: 1 eastbound lane open between Brazos Street and Congress Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday
- Congress Avenue: Fully closed between Seventh and 11th streets from 4 p.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Sunday
- Eighth Street: Fully closed between Brazos and Colorado streets from 4 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday
- Ninth Street: Fully closed between Brazos and Colorado streets from 4 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday
- 10th Street: Fully closed between Brazos and Colorado streets from 4 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday
- Congress Avenue: Fully closed between Cesar Chavez and Fourth Streets from 4 a.m. Saturday to 12 p.m. Sunday
- Congress Avenue: Fully closed between Fourth and Seventh Streets from 4 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday
- Seventh Street: 2 eastbound lanes open between Colorado Street and Congress Avenue from 4 a.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday
As for race day itself, several roadways will see full and partial road closures on Sunday. Here’s a breakdown of those traffic impacts:
Those seeking alternative routes to get in and around Austin Sunday can use MoPac, Lamar Boulevard and Interstate 35 for north and south travel as well as Koenig Lane, 45th Street, U.S. Hwy. 183 and State Hwy. 71 and U.S. Hwy. 290 for east and west traffic.
Participants and spectators can use state parking garages at the Texas Capitol complex as well as surface and garage parking downtown. More details on the race are available online.
