Tornado warning: latest for Louisiana, Mississippi
Tornado warnings are in effect for Louisiana and Mississippi until early Sunday morning, as the National Weather Service (NWS) warns that the conditions are favorable for a tornado to form.
Areas Under Tornado Watch
The following areas across Louisiana and Mississippi should remain on high alert and “be ready to act quickly.”
Louisiana
In southeast Louisiana, the following 12 counties are under a tornado warning until Sunday morning:
- Jefferson
- Lafourche
- Orleans
- Plaquemines
- St. Bernard
- St. Charles
- St. James
- St. John The Baptist
- St. Tammany
- Tangipahoa
- Terrebonne
- Washington
Mississipi
According to the NWS, multiple counties across the southeast, southern, and east-central parts of Mississippi have been told to prepare for a possible tornado. These include:
- Clarke and Jasper counties in east central parts of Mississippi
- George, Greene, Jefferson Davis, Covington, Forrest, Jones, and Lamar counties—including the cities of Bay Springs, Collins, Hattiesburg, Heidelberg, Laurel, Lumberton, Mount Olive, Purvis, Quitman, Shubuta, Stonewall, and West Hattiesburg—in southeast Mississippi.
- Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River, and Walthall in southern Mississippi
In addition, the following coastal areas could also be impacted by a possible tornado: Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas, Mississippi Sound, and coastal waters from southeast Louisiana to coastal Mississippi.
