The Black List 2025 Scorecards: CAA Again Tops Agency Side In Mentions As Management Companies Kaplan/Perrone & Untitled Tie
For the fifth year in a row, CAA has scored the most mentions of any agency on The Black List, the annual compilation of Hollywood’s best-liked unproduced screenplays. On the management side, meanwhile, Kaplan/Perrone and Untitled Entertainment tied for first place.
CAA landed 12 mentions for its scripts, with both Kaplan/Perrone and Untitled getting seven. The latter also led management companies on last year’s list.
Leading all scripts in mentions was Matisse Haddad’s Best Seller, with 48. Set against New York’s literary scene, the story follows a struggling writer, pressured by her famous novelist husband to have a baby, who pens a tell-all article that goes viral. This sparks a dangerous battle of seduction, manipulation, and betrayal in the public and private spheres. Independent Artist Group and Bellevue Productions rep the scribe, and Peter Rice and Jason Reitman are aboard to produce.
Drawing 25 mentions, Kaplan/Perrone’s highest-ranked script is Fixation by Siena Butterfield and Erika Vázquez, in which a couples’ therapist is drawn into a dangerous triangle of lust, lies and manipulation when she begins an affair with a stranger—who turns out to be the husband of her new client. We had the scoop on the erotic thriller landing at New Regency, with Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories aboard to producem, in August.
Untitled’s highest ranked script, at 23 mentions, is Building Bowie by Alan Fox. Logline: In a near-future obsessed with AI generated nostalgia, a repressed droid wrangler is assigned to build a David Bowie replica — but as the droid begins evolving beyond its programming, the wrangler must confront the creative dreams she buried, and decide whether to protect her job or risk everything to reclaim her voice.
Verve and Gersh tied for second place on the agency side with seven mentions. Meanwhile, management companies Bellevue Productions, Range Media Partners, and Artists First tied for second with five.
This year’s Black List features 74 scripts by 86 writers, which were selected by nearly 500 film executives. Six of the selected writers had no reps listed: Greg Levine (Flamer), Richard Martin (Geezers), Lauren Kilbride (Sister), Trevor James (Heartland Express), Noah Sellman (Last Stop in the Desert), and Jacob Marx Rice (The Valley of Hinom).
