Seth Rogen & Rose Byrne’s ‘Platonic’ Renewed For Season 3 At Apple

Sylvia and Will may well get to open their Sh*tty Little Bar, after all, after Apple renewed comedy series Platonic for a third season.

It comes after the second, ten-episode run of the Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne-led series finished up in October. The second season saw Byrne’s Sylvia and Rogen’s Will deal with a variety of issues in their friendship including Will’s wedding fail, Sylvia’s booming party career and challenges with her lawyer-turned-author husband Charlie, played by Luke Macfarlane.

Byrne’s real-life husband Bobby Cannavale made a special appearance in the season two finale as Brett Cayote, Charlie’s action hero star, and the series also stars Andrew Lopez as Will’s former boss Reggie, and Carla Gallo as Sylvia’s friend Katie, who is also sleeping with Will. The season [SPOILER ALERT] ends with Will and Sylivia agreeing to open a bar together to get round a non-compete clause.

Created by Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, the series is produced by Sony Pictures Television, where Stoller’s Global Solutions has an overall deal. Byrne, Stoller, Delbanco and Conor Welch executive produce, along with Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver for Point Grey Pictures.

Rogen and Byrne are key parts of Apple’s television universe; Rogen’s The Studio has been renewed for a second season after winning 13 Emmys including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Rogen, while Byrne also starred in Annie Weisman-created Physical, which ran for three seasons on the streamer, and Christmas movie Spirited.

“We couldn’t be more excited to get back into the world of Platonic with our amazing partners, Rose and Seth and Sony and Apple” said Stoller and Delbanco.

Platonic is proof there is no duo better at making us belly laugh at mid-life crises than Seth and Rose,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV. “Nick and Francesca accomplished the rare feat of taking the show to the next level in season two, and, along with our partners at Sony, we can’t wait to see what they cook up for season three.”
