Red Sox could cut ties with All-Star in offseason trade: Insider

The Boston Red Sox are one of the better teams in the American League, but they need to make some big moves to get over the hump.

The Red Sox have already added Sonny Gray in a big offseason trade, but they might not be done there. The Red Sox could look to add another pitcher to their starting rotation, and they have an All-Star outfielder who could be moved.

MLB’s Mark Feinsand recently suggested the Red Sox could cut ties with Jarren Duran in a trade this winter, which wouldn’t surprise too many people if the idea came to fruition.

“Boston’s outfield is overcrowded to say the least, with Duran joining Roman Anthony, Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu as starting options,” Feinsand wrote. “Duran is under club control for three more seasons, and while he took a step backward after his breakout 2024 campaign, Duran still posted a 3.9 fWAR in 2025, hitting 16 home runs with 84 RBIs and a league-high 13 triples.”

Duran is seemingly the odd man out in the Red Sox’s outfield. They have plenty of quality options out there, but Duran’s value on the trade block might be too much to pass up.

They don’t need to trade him if they feel like he’s their best outfielder, but with the loaded room, it would make sense for him to be traded before next season.
