Midge Purce re-signs with Gotham FC on one-year contract

Midge Purce will return to Gotham FC for another season.

Purce has agreed to a one-year contract to remain with Gotham FC after helping the NWSL club to win a league championship in November when they defeated the Washington Spirit

The 30-year-old forward has spent the past five seasons with Gotham after being selected ninth overall by the Boston Breakers in the 2017 NWSL draft.

She appeared in 23 matches this past season for Gotham, notching one goal and one assist in 2025.

Purce had returned to the team this past season on a one-year deal after missing the entire 2024 NWSL campaign with a torn ACL.

She was previously coy about her future during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated.

“I’m still just recovering from the crazy year that we’ve had, it’s felt like one of the longest years I think I’ve had in the league considering I was still coming back from my ACL injury in the preseason,” she told the outlet. “But I’ve always said that the best type of offseason is the one coming from a championship. You just rest and sleep a lot better, so I’m enjoying that before I get back into my offseason training.”

Overall in her Gotham career, including the playoffs, Purce has 16 goals and eight assists. She was named the NWSL Championship match MVP in 2023 when she recorded two assists as Gotham won their first title.

The Harvard product has developed into a star in the NWSL on and off the pitch. She appeared in “Chicago” on Broadway earlier this year was and was on ESPN’s “ManningCast” during the Giants-Patriots “Monday Night Football” matchup on Dec. 1 shortly after Gotham captured their second league championship.

Purce was also a member of the 2022 CONCACAF W Championship-winning U.S. Women’s National Team.

Her club career has also included two seasons with the Portland Thorns after she was taken fourth overall in the 2018 NWSL Dispersal Draft.
