‘Marty Supreme’ Serves Up Top Limited Opening Of 2025 — Specialty Box Office

Timothée Chalamet-starring Marty Supreme by Josh Safdie served up a stellar limited opening and the highest per-screen-average of 2025, selling out 92 shows (and counting) across New York and Los Angeles, slicing into the top 10 on six screens.

It debuted to $875k and a PSA of $145.9k, the highest ever for distributor A24. The opening per screen average is also the biggest comparable since La La Land in 2016 and joins the ranks of the best limited debuts of all time. It unseats Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme ($570k at six theaters for a PSA of $95k) as the top per screen average this year.

Certified Fresh at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes and with exit polls showing outstanding word of mouth across demographics, Marty Supreme is hitting with younger moviegoers. All indications had heralded a smash opening with presales also the biggest ever in A24 history. The film goes wide Christmas Day.

Chalamet leads an eclectic ensemble cast of Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher, Luke Manley and Koto Kawaguchi. The film drew sold-out raucous crowds all weekend, including exclusive 70mm engagements, for Chalamet as Marty Mauser, a brash young shoe salesman turned ping pong champion in 1950s New York City.

Also in limited release, Bradley Cooper’s Is This Thing On?, starring Will Arnett and Laura Dern, grossed an estimated $145k for a PSA of $24.2k on six screens. Expands in NY and LA and adds a handful of major markets over the holidays.

Janus Films’ release of Resurrection by Bi Gan’s began its expansion in its second weekend with runs in San Francisco and Chicago, grossing an estimated$56.9k on 7 screens for a per screen average of $8.1k and a new cume of $143.4k after ten days.
