‘Lupin’ Creator George Kay Penning ITV Thriller ‘Gone’ Starring David Morrissey & Eve Myles
EXCLUSIVE: Lupin creator George Kay is penning a chilling cat-and-mouse thriller for ITV starring David Morrissey (The Walking Dead) and Eve Myles (Keeping Faith).
The prolific British scribe is behind Gone. Set against the backdrop of a prestigious private school, a foreboding forest and the quiet sprawl of Bristol, Gone follows local Headmaster Michael Polly (Morrissey), who becomes the prime suspect in his wife Sarah’s disappearance. An upstanding member of the community, Michael is inscrutable and likes order and precision in his working life, but then he encounters gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy (Myles) and a compulsive game of cat and mouse begins as she chips away at his veneer in search of the truth.
The series is inspired by the career and work of a former Detective Superintendent for Gloucestershire Police, Julie Mackay, and ITV Crime Correspondent Robert Murphy, who has reported on some of the biggest and most complex cases in the West of England. Both Mackay and Murphy serve as consultants.
Richard Laxton (Mrs Wilson) is directing and Gone also stars Jennifer Macbeth, Arthur Hughes, Nicholas Nunn, Elliot Cowan, Billy Barrett, Rupert Evans, Jodie McNee, Oscar Batterham and Clare Higgins.
Morrissey has plenty recent experience starring in chilling thrillers, having played Ian St Clair in two seasons of James Graham BBC drama Sherwood. Gone sees him reunite with Kay, with whom he worked on ITV’s BAFTA-nominated The Long Shadow. Kay is the creator of Netflix smash Lupin and Idris Elba-starring Apple TV hit Hijack, which is about to launch Season 2. He is also creating HBO-Sky legal thriller War starring Dominic West and Sienna Miller. His All3Media-backed Observatory Pictures is making Gone with New Pictures.
“After teaming up with ITV and New Pictures for true crime drama The Long Shadow, I’m delighted to be working with them again to create a new police drama,” said Kay. “In a story about privilege and prejudice, the truth is tantalisingly close. Or at least, that’s what Annie thinks.”
ITV drama boss Polly Hill added: “The amazing team on and off screen make a beautifully compelling story and one that I am sure will keep the audience guessing.”
Gone is produced by Mark Hedges (Hanna, The Rising) and executive producers are Kay, Willow Grylls (Des, The Missing) and Matt Sandford (The Long Shadow). The series is a New Pictures and Observatory Pictures co-production for ITV in association with All3Media International as the international distributor.
