Kim Petras has 5-word message about trans kids after Nicki Minaj’s comments

Kim Petras has publicly pushed back against comments made by Nicki Minaj about transgender children, after the rapper reignited controversy online.

The “Super Bass” singer has made headlines in recent weeks following a series of posts on X, including her tirade against Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, over his remarks in support of transgender children and related legislation. She has engaged in a dramatic shift of her public political tone.

On December 12, Minaj responded on X to comments from Newsom. The Democratic governor said “he wants to see trans kids” thrive and pointed to the fact that he has signed more pro-transgender legislation than any other governor. These measures include protections for trans youth in California. Newsom also referenced having a trans godson while explaining his support for the community.

In response, Minaj wrote: “Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids. Haha. Not even a trans ADULT would run on that. Normal adults wake up & think they want to see HEALTHY, SAFE, HAPPY kids.” Newsweek reached out to representatives for Kim Petras and Nicki Minaj for comment via email.

Petras, who is transgender and has previously collaborated musically with Minaj, responded succinctly, writing: “Trans kids r healthy btw [by the way].”

Minaj’s recent statements have surprised some fans, given her earlier political positions. During Donald Trump’s first term, she was openly critical of his anti-immigration policies and has historically celebrated LGBTQ+ communities through her music and public persona.

However, in November, she appeared at a United Nations-related event associated with the Trump administration, where she spoke about the need to “defend Christians in Nigeria.”

Since then, Minaj has also interacted publicly with prominent conservative figures online, including Vice President JD Vance. On December 11, he posted on X, “Nick > Cardi,” which Minaj later amplified.

She also reposted a compilation video featuring footage of herself alongside Elon Musk, President Donald Trump, and JD Vance, soundtracked to her song “Moment 4 Life.” Accompanying the post, Minaj wrote: “Heroes The Good Guys God BLESS AMERICA LET’S GO!!! WE GOT FUN TO HAVE!!!!!”

The developments have prompted intense discussion across social media platforms, including Threads, where users expressed a wide range of reactions.

“So Nicki Minaj fans how y’all doing during this era? Like frfr [for real for real] how y’all Really doing? Cause if Bey was going on like this I would be devastated,” wrote Keya.

Others were more resolute in their support. “The Nicki Minaj hate train is something I won’t ever be boarding,” said Jasmine.

Some commenters pointed specifically to the contrast between Minaj’s recent remarks and her past collaborations. “Nicki Minaj trying to demonize trans people after collabing with kim petras is actually bonkers. i totally forgot until i saw kim mentioned trans kids are healthy,” wrote Niki.

Another added: “Nicki Minaj would have to get on the internet and diss me personally before I ever switch up on her I’m sorry.”
