Iranian Council Slated to Select Next Supreme Leader Obliterated By Isreali Strike
Israel has bombed Iran’s Council of Experts in an effort to disrupt the process meant to appoint a new supreme leader for the country.
The strike happened in the holy city of Qom and cited an Israeli defense official as a source, according to Axios.
The joint U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran began on February 28. The nation’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and key leaders within the regime were killed within the first minutes of the assault.
According to the report, the Israeli strike occurred while the Council of Experts was voting for a replacement for Khamenei. Axios reported that it wasn’t clear how many of the council’s 88 members were in the building at the time of the Israeli action.
“We wanted to prevent them from picking a new supreme leader,” an Israeli official told Axios.
Despite the loss of leadership, Iran has fought back launching numerous missiles and drones at targets throughout the region.
Among Iran’s targets has been the oil and gas infrastructure of neighboring countries. They also have attempted to disrupt the supply chain, attacking ships, ports, and announcing that the Strait of Hormuz was closed.
The regime also has lashed out at U.S. bases in the region. As of 4 p.m., March 2, U.S. Central Command reported that six U.S. service members had been killed since the military operation began.
“The Iranian regime is using mobile launchers to indiscriminately fire missiles in an attempt to inflict maximum harm across the region. U.S. forces are hunting these threats down and without apology or hesitation, we are taking them out,” U.S. Central Command stated on X.

U.S. forces said they had destroyed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps command and control facilities and air defense capabilities.
The Associated Press reported that Iran hit the U.S. embassy in Saudi Arabia with a drone strike on Tuesday. The wire service also reported that the hostilities had spilled into Lebanon. Hezbollah, a proxy of Iran’s, launched missiles at Israel, prompting Israel to retaliate. Israel then moved troops into southern Lebanon.
“To prevent the possibility of direct fire targeting Israeli communities, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I have authorized the IDF to advance and secure additional strategic areas in Lebanon, and from there to defend the border communities,” Defense Minister Israel Katz told Fox News. “We promised security for the communities of the Galilee, and that is what we will deliver.”
Hezbollah is not affiliated with Lebanon’s military and acts independently but is strongly supported by Iran.
