Inmate attempts suicide — then escapes Atlanta hospital, steals SUV and gun

An inmate described as “armed and dangerous” escaped from a Georgia hospital after a suicide attempt — stealing an SUV and a handgun in the process, according to authorities.

Timothy Shane was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta around 8 p.m. on Sunday for a medical evaluation after attempting suicide, according to the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office.

In the early hours of Monday morning, Shane escaped on foot from the hospital and allegedly stole an SUV parked in the area, cops said.

Shortly after allegedly stealing the SUV, the bumbling inmate got into an accident and fled again on foot, police said.

The owner of the SUV reported that a Glock handgun was missing from the vehicle.

“He should be considered armed and dangerous. Our agency, along with other assisting agencies, have multiple units in the area searching for inmate Shane,” the sheriff’s office wrote.

Shane is described as a white, 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a buzzed haircut. He was last seen in a blue hospital gown and no shoes.

Grade Memorial Hospital has a policy that requires custodial law enforcement agencies to maintain “one-to-one oversight” of inmates being treated at the hospital, according to Fox News Digital.

It is not immediately known how he made the daring escape.

The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office told The Post there have been no new updates in the search for Shane as of Monday evening.
