Historical Comedy ‘Regency’ From Tara Hernandez Lands Pilot Order At CBS
CBS is heading back to 19th Century England for its next comedy hope.
The network has handed a pilot order to Regency, which comes from Tara Hernandez and Warner Bros. Television. The move puts the multi-cam project in contention for the 2026/27 broadcast season.
It is the latest comedy pilot for Amy Reisenbach and her team after they ordered a pilot for single-camera fantasy comedy Eternally Yours, which comes from Ghosts duo Joe Port and Joe Wiseman.
Regency is a historical spin on the classic multi-cam family sit-com, centered around the upper-middle class Tillbrooks as they navigate life, love, and scandal in 19th Century England.
Hernandez will write and exec produce. She has history with the network and the studio, having been a co-executive producer on both The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. Hernandez also created Mrs. Davis, the sci-fi comedy drama that ran for one season on Peacock and starred Betty Gilpin, with Damon Lindelof. Warner Bros. TV also produced that show.
She is also writing an adaptation of Captain Planet and the Planeteers for Netflix. That project, which is development at the streamer, is a live-action series based on the cult animated show and comes from Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions, Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way and Warner Bros. Television.
