Golden Globe-Nominated ‘Sirât’ Composer Kangding Ray Inks With WME
EXCLUSIVE: Kangding Ray, the composer, producer and DJ who is currently Oscar-shortlisted for his score to Neon’s Sirât, has signed with WME for representation for film scoring.
Ray is coming off a Golden Globe nomination for Sirât, which was also nominated for Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language at last night’s awards. Also shortlisted for the Best International Feature Oscar as Spain’s official entry, Óliver Laxe’s Sirât watches as a father searching for his missing daughter ventures with her brother into the Moroccan desert, where a techno rave and the vast, unforgiving landscape push them toward a raw confrontation with grief, faith, and survival.
In its Cannes premiere, Sirât won a Jury Prize, with Ray picking up the Cannes Soundtrack Award. Ray was also awarded Best Music Score by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association last month.
Over nearly two decades, Ray has forged a singular path across the boundaries of techno, ambient, and avant-garde sound, evolving from the delicate minimalism of his early releases to a distinctive blend of hypnotic textures and futuristic rhythms. His discography, including Stabil, Solens Arc, Hyper Opal Mantis, Ultrachroma, and ZERO, has established him as one of the most innovative voices in contemporary electronic music. His most recent works, the Polar EP and the conceptual diptych Helios Rave Draft and Superfluid, continue his exploration of sound design as emotional and physical experience.
As a new addition to WME’s Music for Visual Media department, Ray joins an elite roster of composers that includes Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, Ludwig Göransson, Jonny Greenwood, Max Richter, Mica Levi, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Volker Bertelmann, Clément Ducol and Camille, among others. The department reps 10 of the 20 on this year’s Oscars Shortlist for Best Original Score and has repped six of the last seven Oscar winners in the category. WME moved to further bolster the department through a merger with Allegro Talent Group announced this past November.
