Eric Dane Tributes: Selma Blair, Alyssa Milano, Paul Walter Hauser & More React To ‘Euphoria’ Star’s Death

Hollywood is mourning the loss of Eric Dane, who died on Thursday following an ALS diagnosis.

After the actor’s death at age 53, his co-stars in shows like Charmed and movies like Bad Boys: Ride or Die remembered him as “a joy to work with,” who “had a razor-sharp sense of humor.”

Sharing a clip of them together on The WB’s Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane, Selma Blair wrote on her Instagram Story, “I love you. And yours.”

Alyssa Milano, who worked with Dane during his Charmed arc from 2003 to ’04, wrote on Instagram, “I can’t stop seeing that spark in Eric’s eye right before he’d say something that would either make you spit out your drink or rethink your entire perspective. He had a razor-sharp sense of humor. He loved the absurdity of things. He loved catching people off guard.

“And when it came to his daughters and Rebecca, everything in him softened. He carried them with him even in rooms where they weren’t present. You could see it in the way his voice changed when he said their names. A breathtakingly beautiful family,” she continued. “The spark. The mischief. The tenderness he kept guarded but never totally hidden.”

Milano wrote, “He convinced me to get my pixie cut and my nose piercing. He also was with me on the walk when we found Lucy, my beloved rescue chihuahua. He called me ‘Milano,’ as if it was the only part of my name that mattered. My heart is with the people who were lucky enough to be his home.”

Dane’s Americana (2023) co-star Paul Walter Hauser also shared a tribute. “We tried to book gigs, we tried to laugh at the pain and we tried to stay sober. I’m glad we got to play together in Americana. I love you, man. I wish we had more time. Enjoy the arms of Father God. I’ll see you again. RIP #EricDane,” he wrote on Instagram.

Euphoria creator Sam Levinson said in a statement, “I’m heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend Eric. Working with him was an honor. Being his friend was a gift. Eric’s family is in our prayers. May his memory be for a blessing.”

Frank Grillo, who appeared with Dane in Little Dixie (2023), wrote on Instagram, “My heart is broken. We lost a good man @realericdane who I had the pleasure of sharing the screen with. We became pals and laughed often. My prayers go out to his beautiful family. See you on the other side brother.”

Alexander Ludwig, who appeared with Dane in Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024), wrote on his Instagram Story, “Ugh this hurts so much. Will miss you Eric and loved our time together. You were a joy to work with.”

An HBO spokesperson said in a statement of the Euphoria star, “We are deeply saddened by the news of Eric Dane’s passing. He was incredibly talented and HBO was fortunate to have worked with him on three seasons of Euphoria. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”

Dane’s family announced his death on Thursday, after the actor revealed his ALS diagnosis last April. “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” they said in a statement. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”

The family continued, “Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”
