Donald Trump Complains That ’60 Minutes’ Has “Treated Me Far Worse” Since David Ellison “Takeover” Of CBS And Paramount
Donald Trump chimed in again on 60 Minutes, CBS and Paramount, this time complaining that the newsmagazine has treated him “far worse” since the David Ellison-led takeover of the company.
He wrote on Truth Social, “For those people that think I am close with the new owners of CBS, please understand that 60 Minutes has treated me far worse since the so-called ‘takeover,’ than they have ever treated me before. If they are friends, I’d hate to see my enemies!”
The president’s post on Tuesday comes as Paramount makes a hostile takeover bid for Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of CNN. Trump has said that he will be part of the government approval process of any WBD transaction, while insisting that any merger have new owners for CNN, long a target of the president’s attacks. That has raised concerns that CNN will see softened coverage of the Trump administration under new owners.
Democrats have hammered Trump’s involvement in the merger, as well as how the government approval of Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount went down this year. The previous leadership of Paramount agreed to settle Trump’s lawsuit against CBS — for the way that 60 Minutes edited an interview with Kamala Harris last year — for $16 million. Weeks later, the FCC approved the deal, with Skydance agreeing to install an ombudsman to take complaints over CBS News.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s board is weighing Paramount’s latest offer, but has already reached a deal to be bought by Netflix.
On Friday, 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley said that the show has not experienced any corporate interference with the new Paramount owners.
“We were all concerned at 60 Minutes about what that meant,” he said at an event to accept a Walter Cronkite Award from USC Annenberg. “It’s early yet, but what I can tell you is we are doing to same kinds of stories with the same kind of rigor, and we have experienced no corporate interference of any kind.”
Trump lashed out at Ellison last week, too, about 60 Minutes, after it featured Lesley Stahl’s profile of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), now a Trump nemesis.
Trump wrote, “My real problem with the show, however, wasn’t the low IQ traitor, it was that the new ownership of 60 Minutes, Paramount, would allow a show like this to air. THEY ARE NO BETTER THAN THE OLD OWNERSHIP, who just paid me millions of Dollars for FAKE REPORTING about your favorite President, ME!”
