Darren Criss & Helen J Shen Set Final Performances In Broadway Hit Musical ‘Maybe Happy Ending’

Broadway‘s original Maybe Happy Ending stars Darren Criss and Helen J Shen will play their final performances in March and February, respectively, producers announced today.

Shen will exit the musical first, playing her final performance as Clair on Sunday, February 15 (the role will then be played by current standby Hannah Kevitt from February 17 to April 2, followed by next standby Claire Kwon from  April 3 through May 17).

Tony winner Criss will play his final performance as Oliver on Sunday, May 17. His replacement has not yet been announced. Additional casting for both the Oliver and Clair roles will be announced at a later date.

Other current original cast members Dez Duron and Marcus Choi will continue to perform in the production at the Belasco Theatre.

Maybe Happy Ending opened November 12, 2024, to critical acclaim and has been a strong box office pull since. In addition to continuing on Broadway, Maybe Happy Ending will launch a multi-year North American tour in the fall of 2026 at Baltimore’s Hippodrome Theatre at The France-Merrick Performing Arts Center. The tour has stops planned in more than cities including Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Chicago, Tampa, St. Louis, Detroit, San Francisco and Providence.  Additional engagements, casting and the route for the tour’s first year will be announced soon.

Maybe Happy Ending, a futuristic rom-com about two robots, is directed by Michael Arden. Book, music and lyrics are by Will Aronson and Hue Park.

The production won six 2025 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (Criss), Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.
