Brian Cox Claims He Wasn’t Aware Voice Would Be Used For Fox News Audio’s ‘Life of Jesus Podcast’
Although God is all-knowing, Brian Cox had no knowledge his voice of the Almighty would be used for Fox News Audio‘s The Life of Jesus Podcast.
The Golden Globe winner’s rep tells Deadline that Cox was unaware of Fox’s ultimate involvement with the project when he recorded his part for 2010’s The Truth & Life Dramatized Audio Bible: New Testament, which was originally released by Ignatius Press.
A Fox News Spokesperson explained in a statement that “Gulfstream Studios produced the Life of Jesus Podcast from The Truth and Life Dramatized Audio Bible, which was licensed by Fox News Audio, with full cooperation and participation by all the actors involved.”
On Wednesday, Fox News Audio announced the new licensing deal with Gulfstream, under which the 52-episode Life of Jesus Podcast will debut Sunday, Nov. 30 via Fox Faith.
Hosted by Fox & Friends‘ Ainsley Earhardt, the podcast boasts “over 100 notable actors voicing characters of the Bible,” including Cox as the voice of God, Kristen Bell as Mary Magdalene, Sean Astin as Matthew, Neal McDonough as Jesus, Malcolm McDowell as Caiaphas and Julia Ormond as Mary Mother of God, narrated by John Rhys-Davies.
Bell’s rep also told Rolling Stone that she was unaware Fox would be repurposing the podcast, for which she reportedly did not give her approval. Rhys-Davies also told the outlet he only just learned of Fox’s involvement.
Still available on the Ignatius online store, Truth & Life includes a foreword from the late Pope Benedict XVI.
