The Secret Service released a statement saying the individual was seen carrying what “appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel canister” as he approached the secure zone marked by layered security measures typically used when the location is designated a protected site.

According to law enforcement sources, the moment agents identified the suspect and perceived a weapon threat, they issued commands before an exchange of gunfire.
