Anne Hathaway’s Transformation for Mother Mary Role Will Make You Do a Double Take
Anne Hathaway officially stepped into her pop star persona with her latest transformation.
The Princess Diaries star showcased a nearly unrecognizable look for her role as pop star Mother Mary in the film’s trailer released Dec. 2.
Anne—who plays the titular character—debuted her new hair as the trailer opens with an image of her onstage adorned in an elaborate ensemble with blonde tresses. The 44-year-old’s hair takes centerstage as her character’s off-stage appearance is stripped down and her signature long dark tresses are chopped into a platinum blonde lob, with dark roots.
In the film, which releases in spring 2026, Anne plays pop star Mother Mary, who leaves her tour and reconnects with her old friend and former costume designer Sam Anselm (Michaela Coel), as she commissions her designs for her comeback performance. However, things appear to get dark, as their rekindled relationship opens old wounds.
