Barack Obama Is Significantly More Popular Than Other Living Presidents: Poll

Barack Obama is the most popular living president by a significant margin, according to a new poll.

The CNN survey showed that Obama is viewed favorably by 57 percent of Americans. By comparison, 30 percent view former President Joe Biden positively while 34 percent have a positive opinion of President Donald Trump.

Overall, 96 percent of Democrats view Obama in a positive light. He also does with independents with 56 percent rating him favorably. 19 percent of Republicans gave Obama favorable marks.

Meanwhile, Trump and Biden garnered approval from only 25 percent and 20 percent of independents, respectively. Neither garnered much support from the other party, and each also scored below 80 percent favorability with their own party.

Other polls have also shown that President Trump’s popularity and approval rating has been trending down. However, it might have bottomed out in May, according to the polling aggregating website Silver Bulletin.

“Donald Trump’s net approval rating hit a second term low of -21.2 in late May. Since then, it has rebounded slightly to -18.7,” the site reported.

According to the site, Trump’s approval rating on immigration has been steady at -10, but his approval rating on the economy was tanking. “[I]n late May, his net approval on the economy dropped below -30 for the first time in his second term,” the site reported.

Trump’s core supporters remain passionate. The CNN poll asked respondents which president they most admired. Obama was again number one, with 30 percent naming him, however Trump finished second with 19 percent. The other top finishers included Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, John F. Kennedy, and George Washington, CNN reported.

The poll comes as the Obama Foundation held its grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center and Library in Chicago. The project, funded through private donations, took 10 years and cost an estimated $850 million. Its centerpiece is a 225-foot tower which the New York Times described as “ambitious and formidable.”
