Eddie Choong’s Path from Engineering to Infrastructure Strategy and Analytics Leadership at Simplexify Consulting
Eddie Choong’s work is driven by a mission to make complex systems easier to understand and turn technical ambition into results that genuinely support people. Through Simplexify Consulting, he draws on years of experience to help organizations navigate infrastructure and operational challenges with a mix of analytical depth and practical judgment.
Trained in mechanical engineering and later specializing in robotics, Choong began his career with a strong technical foundation that sharpened his ability to understand how systems function beneath their technical layers. “Engineering taught me to see systems as a whole,” he says. “Once you understand how the pieces connect, decisions can become less about guesswork and solutions become clear.” That grounding influenced every decision he made, even as his career expanded into finance and advisory.
A chance introduction to financial modeling opened the door to infrastructure advisory. Over the next decades, he worked on projects that demanded both technical fluency and commercial awareness. His experience spanned advisory roles across major firms and financial institutions, where he engaged with infrastructure projects across energy, transport, and water.
“After a while, I kept seeing the same thing,” he shares. “What looked like a financial problem usually had a commercial or structural issue sitting underneath it. Once I realized that, I stopped treating disciplines as separate boxes and started connecting them instead.”
As his career evolved, Choong sought a working environment that allowed greater adaptability in supporting client needs. This led to the founding of Simplexify Consulting in 2018. The firm was built on a philosophy that complex infrastructure challenges benefit from solutions that aim to combine technical understanding, financial rigor, and strategic insight. “Complexity often comes from fragmentation,” he says. “We need to bring perspectives together to see pathways that were always there.”
Simplexify’s work reflects this philosophy through its dual focus on infrastructure and analytics. On the infrastructure side, the firm engages with projects at their earliest stages, where decisions shape long-term outcomes. This includes assessing feasibility through detailed financial and economic evaluation, structuring financing strategies that match project realities, and designing frameworks that account for commercial risks and stakeholder expectations. Choong notes that each project is treated as a system in motion, where technical design, funding structures, and policy environments interact.
The founder’s engineering background plays a key role here. It enables him to interpret technical details with ease while considering their broader financial and operational implications. “This means evaluating whether a proposed transport corridor aligns with demand projections, or whether an energy project can sustain its financial model under shifting market conditions. It also means identifying inconsistencies early, helping clients move forward confidently,” Choong explains.
Analytics forms the second pillar of Simplexify’s expertise. The firm places strong emphasis on turning data into insight that informs decisions. This includes performance and impact analytics that track financial, economic, and environmental outcomes, aiming to provide stakeholders with a clearer view of value creation over time. It also extends to data-driven planning, where scenario modeling and evidence-based tools guide investment priorities.
Predictive and prescriptive analytics strengthen this capability further. By modeling future scenarios and testing assumptions, Simplexify helps clients anticipate shifts in demand, revenue, or risk exposure. Financial modeling sits at the core of this process, translating complex variables into structured frameworks that reveal trade-offs and opportunities. Through this lens, analytics can serve as a way of thinking about decisions before they unfold. “Data tells a story,” Choong stresses. “The real value comes from understanding where that story leads.”
According to Choong, these two areas of expertise converge in helping address challenges organizations may face today: fragmented processes, unclear workflows, and infrastructure systems that struggle to scale with growth. “Our method is all about creating coherence. That means aligning strategy, operations, and financial structures so that each supports the others,” he states.
Beyond consulting, Choong’s broader vision extends into education and health, two areas he sees as essential for societal progress. This perspective led to his involvement in RoboThink Malaysia, an education-focused initiative that introduces young learners to robotics, coding, and problem-solving. “Education is where possibility begins,” he says. “It’s where curiosity turns into capability.” The aim goes beyond technical skills, encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning.
Health forms another dimension of Choong’s vision through Zich Pharma, a pharmacy business built around personalized care. By focusing on tailored formulations, the work recognizes individual needs and supports well-being in a more nuanced way. For Choong, this complements his work in infrastructure and education, forming a broader framework that supports both individual and collective progress.
Across these ventures, Eddie Choong’s belief in building foundations that enable growth over time is apparent. Through Simplexify Consulting and his wider initiatives, he remains focused on creating pathways that bring clarity and meaningful progress into the systems that shape how people live and work.
