Lori Chavez-DeRemer Becomes Latest Official To Leave Trump’s Cabinet
Lori Chavez-DeRemer has become the latest official to leave President Donald Trump’s cabinet, resigning to move into a private sector job. Deputy Secretary Keith Sonderling will serve as acting Labor Secretary, according to White House communications director Steven Cheung.
Chavez-DeRemer announced the decision in a social media publication, saying it was an “honor and a privilege to serve in this historic Administration and work for the greatest President of my lifetime.”
“Thank you, President Trump. While my time serving in the Administration comes to a conclusion, it doesn’t mean I will stop fighting for American workers. I am looking forward to what the future has in store as I depart for the private sector,” she said.

Chavez-DeRemer was facing an investigation from the Labor Department’s inspector general over alleged misuse of taxpayer dollars for personal travel. A whistleblower said she has had staff fabricate official visits to places she wanted to go and were paid with public funds.
The accusation goes on to claim that there is a “stash” of alcohol in her offices and she usually drank during regular work hours. It also says she had an inappropriate relationship with a member of her security detail. She has not been formally accused, but at least four members of her staff have been fired or placed on leave since the investigation began.
A report by The New York Times investigation also noted that staffers were told to “pay attention” to Chavez De-Remer’s father and husband, suggesting they could potentially make advances at them.
One text message published by the outlet shows her father, Richard Chavez, inviting a younger staffer to make a plan. “Hearing u/r in town. Wishing you would let me know. I could have made some excuses to get out and show u around. Please keep this private,” the text says.
Moreover, Shawn DeRemer was banned from entering the Labor Department’s headquarters after female staff members said he sexually assaulted them.
Chavez-DeRemer is the third cabinet member to leave the second Trump administration after former Attorney General Pam Bondi and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
Previous reports have noted that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick could also be on thin ice. He has faced bipartisan calls to resign after his name surfaced in the Epstein files, and according to the sources, he has earned a reputation for pitching incomplete ideas to Trump that others later have to clean up.
