Russia Reportedly Provided Iran List Of Israeli Energy Targets As Part Of War Cooperation
Russia provided Iran with a list of over 50 Israeli energy infrastructure targets as part of the countries’ cooperation during the war, according to a new report.
The Jerusalem Post detailed that the list consists of 55 critical locations and could have allowed Tehran to launch precision missile strikes against Israel’s energy grid.
The list was divided into three categories: Critical production facilities, Major urban and industrial energy hubs and Local infrastructure. Assessing that Israel doesn’t import electricity from other countries, damaging some key components of the grid could result in a prolonged collapse and mass blackouts.
Russia has also provided Iran with information to attack U.S. forces in the Middle East, according to reports from early in the war. President Donald Trump, however, dismissed the effort, saying “it’s not helping them much.” Asked if the development would harm U.S.-Russia relations, he replied “they’d say we do it against them.”
Israel has been hitting Iranian infrastructure since the beginning of the war, most recently targeting steel and petrochemical plants. Officials said on Monday that the country attacked the South Pars petrochemical plant at Asaluyeh.
Defense Minister Israel Katz described the facility as the largest one in the country and responsible for “50% of the country’s petrochemical production.” The Associated Press noted that a previous attack on the same facility catalyzed Iranian retaliation against oil and gas infrastructure across the Gulf.
Trump has also given Tehran a deadline to reach a deal to end the war or face attacks to its power plants and bridges He renewed his threats on Monday afternoon, telling press “we have a plan, because of the power of our military, where every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 o’clock tomorrow night, where every power plant in Iran will be out of business — burning, exploding, and never to be used again.”
“It will take them 100 years to rebuild right now, if we left today, it would take them 20 years to rebuild their country, and it would never be as good as it was. And the only way they’re going to be able to rebuild their country is to utilize the genius of the United States of America,” Trump added.
So far Iran has rejected all proposals. On Monday it presented one of its own with 10 clauses, including an end to conflicts in the region, protocol for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of sanctions and reconstruction. Trump rejected that proposal as well.
