Singapore: 53-Year-Old Man to be Charged After Allegedly Scratching Police Vehicle in Redhill

A 53-year-old man is set to be charged in court on Monday, April 6, after he allegedly vandalised a police vehicle in Redhill Close.

The police said that they were alerted to the case on April 2 at around 7.40 pm, following a report of vandalism at Block 83 Redhill Close. A member of the public had witnessed a man allegedly using an object to scratch a parked police vehicle before leaving the scene prior to officers arriving.

Through subsequent investigations, officers were able to establish the identity of the suspect. He was arrested two days later, on Saturday, April 4.

Preliminary findings indicate that the man had used his key to scratch the doors of the police vehicle, causing damage.

He will now face charges of vandalism. If convicted, he could be fined up to S$2,000, jailed for up to three years, and face between three and eight strokes of the cane.

In a statement, the police reiterated their zero-tolerance stance towards acts of vandalism, stressing that those who deliberately damage property and flout the law will be dealt with firmly.
