Elon Musk has shared a cryptic message that has quickly raised eyebrows and concern online. “Whoever said “money can’t buy happiness” really knew what they were talking about,” followed by a sad face emoji, the richest man in the world, wrote on X, the platform he owns.
The adage “Money can’t be happiness” has been cemented in the cultural lexicon for centuries, and can be traced back to the 18th century philosopher, Jean-Jacques Rosseau. It means that while money can provide comfort and security, it cannot guarantee genuine happiness, fulfillment, or emotional well‑being, which come from non‑material aspects of life such as relationships, purpose, and inner peace.
Musk, who recently became the first person ever to be worth $800 billion and is on track to become the first trillionaire in history, is also known for his complex family life. He has fathered more than a dozen children with multiple partners, amid blended households, custody disputes and public disagreements over parenting and privacy.
His post has quickly gone viral, amassing over 34 million views as of reporting, and has been met with a mixed response online.
