Verve Restructure Sees Three Agents Departing
EXCLUSIVE: Three agents are departing Verve amid restructuring, Deadline has learned.
According to multiple sources, longtime TV lit agent Chase Northington has been laid off, with MP lit agent Sara Nestor one of two whose contracts are not being picked up. It’s not yet clear on what date the three will exit the company.
“As we look toward the future of Verve, we have restructured the agency to strengthen our core operations and invest more deeply in high-growth areas of the business. In a rapidly evolving marketplace, this strategy ensures we continue to meet the needs of our clients and industry partners, and to deliver the highly specialized, client-first representation that Verve is known for. This strategy also reinforces our team-driven culture—one that ignites collaboration, accelerates innovation, and delivers measurable results, as we build and elevate creative careers with longevity and cultural impact,” the Verve Board said in a statement to Deadline.
Northington has been at Verve for his entire career in the business, having joined as an intern in February 2013, after a stint working as a commercial real estate broker in Texas. He was then just the second person at the company to make it from intern to agent, on the heels of Parker Davis.
Nestor was upped from motion picture coordinator to agent in 2017 and was likewise homegrown. She started as an intern before quickly her way up to assistant, and then to agent.
Earlier this year, Verve announced temporary salary cuts for employees above a certain compensation threshold — said to be in the six figures — as a means of dealing with the severe economic headwinds the industry has been facing, without having to resort to laying off staffers. The move was said to be in effect until end of year, with the agency also closely scrutinizing expenses and assistant overtime.
Verve just announced its hiring of talent agent Amanda Lie last month, and sources close to the agency indicated that there will be more to say with regard to further expansion in the coming months.
