Costume Designers Guild Awards Nominations: ‘Wicked: For Good’, ‘Sinners’, ‘Avatar: Fire & Ash’ In Film Hunt
EXCLUSIVE: The Costume Designers Guild on Friday dressed up the nominations for its 28th CDGAs, with titles on the movie side ranging from such big hits as Wicked: For Good, Sinners, One Battle After Another, Weapons and F1 to specialty fare including Hamnet, Hedda and Bugonia. Also in the mix are the likes of Frankenstein, Tron: Ares, the upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash and others.
Among the TV nominees are 2025 Primetime Emmy winners Andor, The Studio, Hacks, SNL50: The Anniversary Special and The Traitors. Small-screen nominations also went to Wednesday, 1923, The Masked Singer, The Gilded Age and others. The only double nominees this year are Warner Bros’ Sinners and Weapons, along with Apple TV’s Palm Royale. All three scored noms for Costume Illustration along with their respective film and TV categories. See the full list below.
The CDG Awards nominates films in three categories — Contemporary, Period and Sci-Fi/Fantasy — along with four TV categories and one category apiece in Short Form Design and Costume Illustration.
Nosferatu, Wicked and Conclave took the top film prizes at the 27th CDGA back in February. Since the guild launched its awards show in 1999, the Academy Award for Costume Design has gone to a period film every year but four, including last year’s Wicked, Mad Max: Fury Road (2016), Black Panther (2019) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2023). Paul Tazewell snagged the Oscar for Wicked in March after winning the CDG prize.
Shōgun, Hacks and Dune: Prophecy led the 2025 TV winners.
The 2026 winners will be feted at the annual CDG Awards ceremony on Thursday, February 12, at The Ebell of Los Angeles. The guild will reveals its Hall of Famers and career award recipients in the coming weeks.
