Avalon Takes Stake In ‘Brassic’ Producer

Avalon has taken a stake in Calamity Films, the outfit behind Sky hit Brassic and Pride.

Avalon didn’t confirm whether it has taken a minority or majority stake in Calamity, which was founded more than a decade ago by David Livingstone and will continue working from its London offices after the acquisition.

Calamity’s credits include Brassic, the recently-ended Sky comedy that was a hit for the pay-TV network and attracted viewers when it was acquired by Netflix. It also made Pride, which won the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for three BAFTAs. Calamity is currently part of the team developing Pride the Musical, reuniting director Matthew Warchus and writer Stephen Beresford and set to open at the National Theatre in 2026, alongside what Avalon described as “a bold and diverse slate of new television and film projects.”

Livingstone said: “We are incredibly pleased to be announcing our partnership with Avalon. We’ve known and admired the Avalon team, their projects and independent spirit for many years, and I’m delighted we can further develop our relationship as Calamity looks ahead to its next chapter.”
