How ‘DWTS’ winner Robert Irwin honored sister Bindi 10 years after she won the Mirrorball trophy
They’re cut from the same cloth.
“Dancing With the Stars” Season 34 winner Robert Irwin honored his sister, Bindi, 10 years after she won the dancing competition.
After the son of the late conservationist Steve Irwin took home the coveted Mirrorball Trophy with his partner, Witney Carson, Robert said winning the same accolade as his sister meant “everything to him.”
“To follow in those footsteps and to do the same has meant everything to me,” he told People after the show’s finale Tuesday night.
“This has absolutely changed my life,” the 21-year-old Australian conservationist added.
Robert told the outlet that Bindi, 27, winning the award with her “DWTS” partner, Derek Hough, in 2015, was special because it allowed their family to inform the public about their conservation work, charity and the Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors.
“It’s about making the world a better place. And when I watched her lift that Mirrorball, I saw her lifting that message,” he said.
Robert and Carson, 32, were announced as the winners of the Season 34 Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy champions at the end of the three-hour finale.
Ahead of the show, Carson revealed she had to make last-minute changes to her choreography due to Robert battling rib pain in rehearsals.
Alix Earle and Val Chmerkovskiy were the runner-ups, Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa placed third, Dylan Efron and Daniella Karagach came in fourth and Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bersten followed in fifth place.
Tuesday’s season finale also featured the return of previously eliminated contestants Corey Feldman, Hilaria Baldwin, Whitney Leavitt, Jen Affleck, Andy Richter and Danielle Fishel.
“DWTS” Co-hosts Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro shared that the “gap” between the first and second place was the “tightest” they had “ever seen” in the ABC series’ history.
