A24, Barnes & Noble Partner On Branded In-Store Spaces For Indie Studio’s Books, Movies, Merch
EXCLUSIVE: A24 and Barnes & Noble have teamed up for the A24 Shop Experience, a dedicated area bringing the indie studio’s storytelling to some of the giant chain’s leading stores.
Starting this week, nine bookstores will feature a custom-designed, branded space curated by A24 with more locations to launch in 2026. It’s an unusual activation on a national scale for Barnes & Noble and a first brick-and-mortar retail destination for A24, which launched an online store in 2017 and a book publishing arm in 2019. The Barnes & Noble spaces will showcase the brand’s top sellers along with products inspired by its IP from Blu-rays and Vinyl to collectibles and exclusive merchandise.
The publishing division’s Screenplay Collection is a big seller on the site and features original screenplays, new writing and behind-the-scenes materials from films such as Robert Eggers’s The Lighthouse, Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird, Barry Jenkins’s Moonlight, and Ari Aster’s Hereditary. Other original works include costume designer Heidi Biven’s Euphoria Fashion; cookbook Horror Caviar; On The Dance Floor: Spinning Out on Screen; Darren Aronofsky’s Pi: The Guerilla Diaries; 99 Movie Crosswords; and travel guide Florida!.
The studio’s website offers A24 branded apparel and merchandise tied to its films, from a new Hereditary Christmas Ornament Set, to the Eddington original motion picture soundtrack, to a Materialists Silver Hearts Charm Ring. Marty Supreme starring Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow, opening Christmas Day, will have some shelf space.
Other upcoming releases include The Moment starring Charli XCX; How to Make a Killing with Glen Powell; Pillion starring Alexander Skarsgard and Harry Melling; and Zendaya and Robert Pattinson in The Drama.
Barnes & Noble had already been stocking some A24 products, and the studio has hosted in-store events like the recent launch of Eleanor Coppola’s posthumous memoir Two of Me: Notes on Living & Leaving, which featured a live conversation between Sofia and Roman Coppola moderated by Vogue editor Keaton Bell.
“Storytelling has always been at the heart of Barnes & Noble, and we’re thrilled to partner with A24, the home for storytelling on screen. This partnership gives fans another way to experience the stories, films, and artists they love,” said Barnes & Noble’s Director of Media Bill Castle.
The first A24 Shop Experiences are launching just ahead of Black Friday in LA (The Grove at Farmers Market); New York (Union Square); Orlando (Colonial Plaza Market Center); Bloomington, Minnesota (Mall of America); Oak Brook, Illinois (Oakbrook Center); Portland (Clackamas Town Center Mall); Seattle (Washington: Northgate Mall); San Antonio (San Pedro); and Troy, Michigan.
Barnes & Noble has more than 700 locations and the A24 deal comes amid a renaissance in the sector for both independent booksellers and the big chain, which has been adding new stores.
A24 has been diversifying and this fall opened the doors of New York City’s historic Cherry Lane Theatre, which it acquired in 2023. It’s running a mix of programming with comedy shows by Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael and Jenny Slate, film screenings with Jodi Foster and Spike Lee, a monthly screening series with Sofia Coppola, music performances with Brandi Carlile, Audrey Hobert, Mitski and Japanese Breakfast, and a new on-site restaurant called Wild Cherry.
