The Syracuse Orange (3–7, 1–6 ACC) are limping into this matchup after a tough 38–10 loss to No. 18 Miami last week. Their offense sputtered badly: quarterback Rickie Collins struggled (12/26 for 85 yards, 2 INTs), and while they managed 161 rushing yards, they couldn’t convert that to enough scoring. It’s been a brutal stretch for Syracuse, which has now dropped six straight games and is out of bowl contention. Head coach Fran Brown knows this is a “big-picture” test, a chance to show their young roster can fight in a high-profile spot.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8–2) come into this matchup riding a hot streak. They dominated Pitt 37–15 last week, thanks in part to a 147-yard rushing effort from Jeremiyah Love and a strong all-around performance. The Irish offense this season has been very efficient: quarterback CJ Carr has thrown for 2,487 yards with 21 touchdowns to 6 interceptions, and Notre Dame averages 38.3 points per game. Defensively, they’ve held teams to under 20 points a game, which gives them a big edge here.
