From ‘SAS Rogue Heroes’ To ‘Superman’: Iconic Filming Locations Compete For EUFCN Awards

Locations used in films and series including SAS: Rogue Heroes, Superman and The Librarians are among those vying for the European Film Commissions Network’s annual Location Awards, and the EUFCN has unveiled the jury that will run the rule over this year’s selection of hotspots.

Alessandro Bonino from Fremantle’s Wildside, Gail McQuillan from Blueprint Pictures, Caroline von Kühn from Oxbelly, and location managers Andrea Keener and Sue Quinn will form the five-strong jury for the upcoming ninth edition of the awards.

Each film commission that is a EUFCN member can submit one location from their territory. The jury runs the rule over that roster of locations and reduces it to a shortlist of five, which will be revealed in Dec. Croatia fares well with three locations in the line-up of locations. Germany and Spain have two apiece.

The winners are crowned at the European Film Market during the Berlin Film Festival in February. There is also an EUFCN Audience Location Award that runs in parallel and is decided by a public vote.

“We are grateful to all our Jury members and partners who support us in doing what we know best: advocating for the complex and collaborative work between film professionals, Film Commissions and local authorities when Filming Europe,” said Venia Vergou, Manager of the EUFCN.
