(Re: ‘Oil’s not well,’ Letters to the Editor, Calgary Sun, Friday, Nov. 14.) The letter-writer, as well as most Albertans, seem to be unaware of the fact that OPEC, including the UAE, produces much less oil than it can — something in the order of 5 million barrels a day. Maybe Ms. Smith can ask them why they are limiting their production, since your entire province seems to be unaware of the concept of supply and demand and how that affects the price of goods and services. Maybe Ontario should double its car production.

(Albertans are well aware of the concept of supply-and-demand)

Had to use it

With regard to the premier using the notwithstanding clause, what else could she have done? The union never asked for binding arbitration, which may or may not have settled things down. The government has already promised to hire 3,000 more teachers and to build or refurbish 180 schools to improve conditions. This will take a few years to accomplish. Smith can’t punch numbers into a computer, then press ‘enter’ and 3,000 teachers appear out of nowhere! (NDP Leader Naheed) Nenshi offered no solution, and, if he was in charge, the teachers would still be on strike and the schools empty.

Changing target

Danielle Smith is starting to sound like Taco (Trump Always Chickens Out) Trump — always changing announcement dates on pipeline news.

Doomsday cult

(Re: Letters to the Editor, Calgary Sun, Sunday, Nov. 16.) Steve Klein is just another Malthusian. The end is nigh, we’re all doomed! This doomsday cult of radical environmentalists and those who proclaim the world is over-populated and that something must be done to avert the coming apocalypse. I bet people have been hearing about the end-of-the-world since time began and we’re still here. There are some demographers that propose the world’s population will decrease by six billion inhabitants by the end of this century and I’m sure the alarmists will then shriek the world is under-populated and humans need to breed before we become extinct and are gone forever. If that’s food for thought – I ain’t hungry.
